Lancashire Moon

The creation of the animation of the ever present yet ever-changing moon involves a process of gathering images from members of the public in Blackpool, Preston and Lancaster.

Hannah Fox will digitally ‘map’ faces by photographing and filming people whilst they are seated. Alongside scores of other faces, she will use portrait map data to create movement and features for the ‘Lancashire Moon’.

The Lancashire Moon will be created in a similar way to the film Avatar. The faces of Lancashire folk will become the movement template that then animates a hand drawn illustration of the moon. The friendly, quizzical, questioning moon, will be projected to an enormous scale and gaze down upon audiences during the festival.

We are creating a new animation of the moon to be projected onto The Wedding Chapel on the Promenade, during the Festival 25 – 27 October.

The Blackpool moon is titled ‘Love’ and features in love couples from the Blackpool area, several of whom were married at the Wedding Chapel. Including the first ever bride at the Wedding Chapel Kelly Garrick, who along with couples Sally-Anne and JJ Roskell, Rachael and Chris Bennett, Mandy and Paul Weszka and Paul and Chris Morgan-Trumper; joined us on Saturday 14th July to be filmed for the animation process to create the Lancashire Moon.
