Sun Glitter is a mesmeric projection-based artwork that draws inspiration from the optical phenomenon where sunlight dances across the ocean’s surface, creating shimmering trails of light known as “sun glitter.” This fleeting, natural spectacle is reimagined onto the angular, tessellated façade of Blackpool’s iconic Wedding Chapel.
Rotating diamonds mapped to the chapel’s scale like surface simulate the glint and flicker of sunlight on moving water, interacting with it dynamically to evoke a sense of liquid movement and celestial reflection. The work explores the connection between earth, sea, and sky as well as alluding to the sequinned glitz of Blackpool’s ballroom history.
Sun Glitter invites audiences to pause and reflect on moments of transience and wonder, drawing a visual and emotional line between coastal light, the ocean’s rhythm and architectural form.
