Applications are now open for our SHINE Emerging Light Artist Programme 2026, offering an exciting opportunity for artists to create new light-based work and tour it across some of the North’s most iconic light festivals.
We are seeking ambitious, high-quality proposals for two new commissions that push creative boundaries and engage diverse audiences in outdoor festival settings. This is more than just a commission—it’s a chance to take your practice to the next level.
Successful applicants will gain invaluable experience developing work at scale, working within large public events, and building their profile within the growing light art sector.
What’s on offer?
- Commission Fee: Up to £15,000 (inclusive of artist fees and fabrication)
- Touring Support: Up to £2,500 (travel and attendance costs)
- Professional Development: Mentoring, production guidance, and technical support throughout
Touring opportunities
Selected works could tour a range of vibrant locations across the North, including Lightpool (Blackpool), Light Night Leeds, Light Up Lancaster, Barnsley Bright Nights, Light Up Wigan, Lightwaves Salford, and Illuminate Oldham. From busy urban centres to scenic waterfronts, proposals should be adaptable, durable, and designed to captivate wide audiences.
