Field of Dreams

During 2026, LeftCoast will be working with artists Ivan Morison and Heather Peak on a new long-term project in Mereside – starting with the planting of a wildflower meadow that will evolve into a large-scale artwork.

The Field of Dreams will explore processes of growing, gathering, and collective making, bringing together ideas of ecology, civic space, and material transformation. The meadow itself is both site and medium, supporting biodiversity and soil regeneration, while also producing materials that will later be harvested and shaped into structures built with the community.

“This is a social artwork… It treats the act of growing as part of the artwork itself. The process is public, slow, and visible.” – Ivan Morison

Over time, the grasses and flowers will be used to construct shelters, spaces for rest, encounter, and connection, created with and for the people who live there.

During the first phase, they will be speaking with residents in Mereside to find out how they would like to use the space and what colour of flowers they would like to see.
