Our LUTN network partner, Barnsley Bright Nights, has recently had three striking Yorkshire Rose sculptures unveiled in the heart of their hometown – now standing proudly above a beautifully designed 4,700sqm urban park.
At the centre of the installation is the impressive 15-metre-tall ‘Mater’ (Mother) Rose, flanked by two equally captivating 12-metre sculptures: the ‘Pruna’ (Glowing Coal) Rose and the ‘Vitrum’ (Glass) Rose. Together, these works pay tribute to Barnsley’s rich industrial heritage, blending history with bold contemporary design.
The sculptures are located within The Seam, part of the UK’s first Investment Zone. This ambitious new space is designed to bring together public and private sectors, fostering innovation and supporting the growth of technology and digital industries—positioning Barnsley as a forward-thinking hub for creative enterprise. The development has been made possible through a combination of Future High Streets Funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, alongside council investment.
Watch this space—later this year, Barnsley Bright Nights will use this new location as part of their annual light festival, with artist commissioning opportunities set to be announced soon.
